Merry X-Mas

Tomorrow we all celebrate the birth of Santa Claus, or was it the Tooth Fairy? I just can’t tell all these make belief characters apart! Anyways, I hope you all have a good holiday and remember: Do not eat the yellow snow!

New Server

We’ve finally updated the server running eae.net. This means that this weblog should not be so ridiculously slow any more and that WebFX should be usable again. We’re still in the process of updating everything so there might be some issues left for a day or so.

FeedDemon and Mozilla

I’ve been using FeedDemon as my aggregator lately. Unfortunately it uses IE as the internal browser so I was forced to open up all pages in an external instance of Mozilla Firebird. This works fairly well but it is a bit annoying. However, today I managed to patch FeedDemon to use Adam Lock’s Mozilla ActiveX ...

The War of the Web, Part 2: Microsoft vs Macromedia

It is now more or less obvious that the browser wars are dead for good. But that does not mean that the battle of the web is over. This time the main battles are all about Rich Internet Applications. A few weeks back Microsoft introduced Avalon and XAML. Now it is time for Macromedia to ...

Cidade de Deus

If you are going to watch only one movie this year don’t make that The Matrix or The Return of the King. Make that Cidade de Deus (City of God). I knew this movie was going to be good. Guilherme Blanco recommended it a long time ago and when it finally arrived to the theatres ...

Eric Lippert

If you like JavaScript, the programming language, as much as I do I think you’ll really like Eric Lippert’s weblog. Eric is a Microsoft developer who works worked with JScript (the language and script interpreter/compiler) so he knows what he is talking about. Eric confirms my theory about memory leaks in Internet Explorer in this ...

XAML Comments

Ian Hickson (from Mozilla, Opera and W3C) has some good points about XAML. Well actually he never mentions XAML, Microsoft nor Windows but we all know what he is talking about.

PNG Tools?

A while back I read about a program that allowed you to change the default background color that IE uses for semitransparent PNG images. For example if I create a PNG image with alpha channels in Photoshop and then try to display that in IE it uses a gray background (the default Mosaic background color). ...

Backend Working Again

I don’t know what happend to our servers (Emil has not been online) but now the commenting should work again. I’ve been playing around with XAML and I got my first custom control working. My goal is to first extend Canvas to support and left and right just the way CSS2 does. Once I get ...

XAML: First Impressions

Finally, the facts are out for XAML. I’ve been waiting for this release for a few years now. Prior to this it has all been roumors and speculation. First impressions: Very Mixed The first things that struck me was how MS reinvented everything. A lot of your exisitng experience for writing applications are totally wasted, ...

Safari Raises the Bar

This makes me wish Safari was available for Windows. Safari 1.1 has some really awesome features (I’m voting for these in Bugzilla for Mozilla). How about these goodies: Support for CSS3 RGBA colors. I’m not sure this is a complete support. Dave Hyatt just lists the most important properties. (Bugzilla Entry) Support for CSS2 text-shadow. ...

XAML is Emerging

Ryan Dawson writes at his Longhorn Blog about XAML. If you don’t know what XAML is you should read Ryan Dawson’s entry first. XAML is Microsofts version of XUL. I like XUL but without the installation base it is not a viable alternative to using DHTML for creating zero footprint rich client web application. For ...

Windows Village

While looking for information about upcoming Longhorn features I stumpled upon these interesting job details at Microsoft Careers. The job description says that Longhorn will build a next generation NNTP Newsgroup functionality into the Longhorn Windows Shell. As an example it says that if the user is in My Photos and clicks “Windows Village”, they ...

Bindows 0.94

Another week, another Bindows release. This realese has some important bug fixes and we are getting closer and closer to a 1.0 release.

Mozilla Release Galore

Today the Mozilla Foundation released 3 new milestones. Most anticipated is the Mozilla Firebird 0.7 release but I snatched the Mozilla Thunderbird 0.3 release as well. I did not install Mozilla 1.5 since I have no use for it any more.

PDC Broadcasts?

Does anyone know if there will be any broadcasts or slideshows available to people who cannot go to the PDC in LA? Would it not be great if all the sessions were recorded and then downloadable to MSDN Subscribers?

Windows Sandboxing

Dylan Greene has a good post about how sandboxing Windows could make computing a lot more secure. Since Longhorn will be using Avalon, which is a .Net API, I don’t see why this would not be possible. .Net already has most of these security features built in and Longhorn will most likely use .Net 2.0, ...

No Idea’s Original

No idea’s original There’s nothing new under the sun It’s never what you do but how it’s done What you base your happines around? Material, women and large paper? That means you inferior, not major

RIAA Makes Me Laugh

Sharman Networks are suing RIAA because RIAA has been using illegal, cracked version of Kazaa to spy on users. The RIAA commented on this with: The Recording Industry Association of America called Sharman’s “newfound admiration for the importance of copyright law” ironic and “self-serving.” Self serving? That’s exactly what I would call RIAA. They are ...

Bindows 0.92

Today we reased our third Beta of Bindows (0.92). I think we are rapidly progressing towards a 1.0 release. The user feedback has been excellent and we have squashed almost all of the known bugs. It is really interesting to see how well people are taking on this API. User Demos It would be really ...

Same As it Ever Was

It is now clear that the Swedish people do not want any change. Somehow I find it odd that the Swedes are satisfied with falling behind the other OECD countries and that they believe that saying no to change will help Sweden change this pattern. It is also clear that the Swedes do not want ...

Bindows 0.91 (Beta 2) is out

We decided that we wanted to keep the updates coming and therefore I present Bindows 0.91 to you. New in this release is a color picker which is pretty sweet. It uses the HSL color space to allow the user to pick a color from a palette (much like Photoshop). I make the hue-saturation palette ...

TB 0.2 and Blogging

Mozilla Thunderbird 0.2 is out. This version is based on Mozilla 1.5b so it should be even more stable than it has been before (not that it has ever crashed). Main improvements to this build is that it is a bit faster than 0.1. Still it is a bit slow but the features make up ...

Bindows in the Blogs

There has been a few blogs about Bindows while I’ve been on my vacation (as well as a few 100 messages in the Forum) Don Park writes: It seems pretty slow though. I suspect that most, but not all, of the slow speed is due to the server-side misdesigns. Bindows is a client side only ...

I’m now 28

Since it is raining today (or was raining) I’m sitting in front of my dad’s computer and realizing that I should probably post that it is my birthday and I’m now 28 years old.

Vacation

A few more days…

RSS Reader Part 2

Asa Dotzler gave me a list of RSS readers to try out. I’m currently giving RSS Reader another try. It is maybe a bit too basic but I like the concepts of using bookmarks. Once I get back from my vacation I’ll see if I can get it to at least mark feeds with unread ...

RSS Reader

I’m looking for a RSS reader. I need one that either integrates with Mozilla Firebird or uses the Gecko engine.

Bindows is Live

Bindows is the project I’ve been working with during the last year. “Bindows™ is a Graphical User Interface Toolkit for writing rich client side web applications with the look, feel and behavior of modern Windows™ applications. Bindows applications are lightweight applications with zero footprint which means no installation required.” Bindows is a Swing/WinForms like GUI ...

Weekend in Malmö/Copenhagen

I had a very nice weekend in Malmö and Copenhagen. Malmö is definately the place to be if you like skateboarding and happen to live in Sweden. On Saturday the rain was falling down so we spent the day at the indoor park, Bryggeriet, in Malmö. Most likely the best skatepark in Sweden. On the ...

Name Dropping

Just to give some background to those that care. If anyone really do? Mr. Lif Talib El-P Nas 7L & Esoteric Shadow RJD2 Mad Lib X Common Superscientificu (try to get a hold of this if you can ) Embee Aesop Rock … I guess I could have summed a lot of them up as ...

Support your Local Dealer?

I find it harder and harder to be able to support my local record dealers. There are 2 big record stores in Gothenburg and their Hip Hop sortiment is growing smaller, older and more commercial by every day. A couple of weeks ago I found out that they did not even have the fairly new ...

When Good Hip Hop goes Pop

About a week ago a was visiting my local record store. Holding the new Common album in my hand. Due to limited time I could not listen to it at the store so I decided not to buy it but download it and listen to it before spending 15 euros on it. I’m so happy ...

The Any Key

I guess Compaq went a bit too far with trying to be user friendly.

JoteSite is BACK!!!

JoteSite, one of my favorite tech sites through all times, is finally back after a year (or 2?). I’ve been seing their “Coming soon” page for the entire time because I had it bookmarked in my News folder and I always use “Open in tabs” for that folder. The layout is a bit messy (but ...

I admit. I’m a Nerd

Doing my daily Mozilla/Bugzilla browsing and I found this bug which also links to another bug.

Re: IE and XHTML

In response to Houser @ HouserDesign.com and his message at Foo’s blog: There seems to be some misunderstanding about that IE supports XHTML. IE supports XHTML equally good as Netscape Navigator 4.x and Mosaic. Just because you can write an HTML document using well formed XML does not mean that is XHTML. Neither does adding ...

I guess I Got Foo

Foo blogged about him trying to convince me to start my blog…. I guess I owe it all to him then Seriously though if we had not had our chat on Saturday I would most likely not have gotten this shit done. While you are at his place you really should check out his Outlook ...

Thunderbird 0.1 is Out

Thunderbird, the standalone Mozilla Mail client, has reached its first milestone. I’ve been using this since day one and it is very stable (and it is only at 0.1) This is the perfect mail client for anyone tired of spam, tired of OE’s lagging IMAP support, or just plain tired of Outlook’s bloat. Of course ...

CSS3 External Links

I’ve added icons to external links. This is acheived using the CSS3 not() selector and the new starts-with attribute selector. a[href]:not([href^="/"])::after { padding-left: 0.2em; content: url(/images/globe.12.png); } Too bad this will not be seen by the majority of the users for at least 2 more years. (IE rant #2).

General Layout Completed

I’ve created a new CSS based layout. I got the ideas for the layout from the Zunflower layout made by Radu Darvas for the Zen Garden site. Although not even close to being as nice as the source of inspiration this one has a few nifty tricks up its sleave. I originally wanted to achieve ...

Up and Running

This is my first post… Setting up and configuring MT was pretty straight forward but I know my mom would not have been able to do it Now I need to come up with a nicer layout and maybe even figure out how to send the correct content type (and make sure this thing is ...
